The World of Online Magazines

The first day of one of my classes the prof put us students on the spot asking, "how many of you have read magazines and have subscriptions." I admit I felt like one of the only ones that really had no interest in magazines. So my project for the week was to find a magazine I liked. I came up with Life Magazine. Each Magazine has a specialized topic. I have one on my idol Audrey Hepburn and one on strange animal and plant life. The website is even more interesting it follows numerous topics and has fun things like pictures you have to guess are real or fake. One particular article caught my eye.

"DOGS. Their loyal natures, unique personalities, and generally happy dispositions make dogs among the most popular pets in the world. And no matter what breed you love, LIFE has photos of the cutest, coolest, bravest, funniest, craziest canines ever to be called man's best friend."

End Of August Blues

 

It was the last weekend before school started and I wanted to find good old fashion adventure in my urban surroundings. Being a romantic I thought the best adventure would be to spend time with my boyfriend, Riley, on mini dates around town. We packed five mini dates into four days and made plans for a sixth the weekend after.

On Friday we started at the mall with mini golf. Fourteen holes with par two or three. Even though it was a busy weekend we got in fast and even got a free game out of it when Riley scored 1000 on the end hole. The family in front of us was slow but we didn't mind as we were in no rush, the problem came when the family circled around behind us and started golfing while we were still on a hole. Mini golf etiquette is important when putting.

We moved on to the arcade and played classic racing games, shooting games, basket ball, skee ball, and a new game that is like jump rope except the rope is a series of lights. With each game we won tickets and after we had burned through our tokens we used the tickets to get small arcade memorabilia, a rubber ducky and a mini deck of cards. This is classic chick-lit date material and I loved it.

Next we were off to the movies. We wanted to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World because we are gaming nerds and I must say it was unique, fast paced, and hilarious. But I won't spoil the plot, I will only recommend it to other gaming nerds and fans of pop culture references. 

 

Last on Friday we went for dinner at Original Joe's a new restaurant for me and a favourite for Riley.  Joe's offers food from yam fries and chicken wraps to butter chicken or tortellini. All highly recommended. 

Saturday was a sunny but windy day and I could feel autumn in the air. We went for a bike ride on some river valley trails. We ran into some problems when we realized one bike had near flat tires and the other had very little in the way of braking, but all in all a good bike ride.

 

By Monday we were hoping to get to JurassicForrest just outside of town but moved that particular date to next weekend.  http://www.jurassicforest.com/
